How to light your living room — 5 rules worth remembering

Many of us still think of living-room lighting as a single point on the ceiling — one big fixture meant to light the whole room. In reality, well-designed lighting works in layers, letting you match the mood of a room to the time of day and the occasion.
1. Plan light in three layers
General lighting (a ceiling fixture or chandelier), task lighting (a reading lamp, light over a worktop) and ambient lighting (LED strips, wall sconces) should coexist and be controlled independently.
2. Pay attention to colour temperature
Warm light (2700–3000K) supports relaxation, while cooler light (4000K and above) works better in task areas. In a living room, warm, easy-on-the-eye light is usually the better choice.
3. Don't forget dimmers
The ability to smoothly adjust brightness is one of the simplest ways to let the same living room feel bright and energetic during the day, and cosy and relaxed in the evening.
Good lighting doesn't shout — it simply makes a room look and feel right.
4. Match the chandelier's scale to the room
A fixture that's too small gets lost in a large living room, while one that's too big overwhelms a small space. A useful rule of thumb: the chandelier's width should be about 1/2–2/3 of the width of the table or zone it hangs over.
5. Talk to a specialist
Every interior is different — floor area, ceiling height, wall colour and natural light all matter. At our showroom on Pl. Wolności 2 we're happy to help you bring these elements together.
